Instructions

Crochet hook sizes I use: I for main hat. J & H for stem, adapt as needed depending on the size of your stitches, mine tend to be small.

Stitches needed: chain, slip stitch, single crochet, and double crochet.

Round 1: Chain 4. Work 11 double crochet into 4th chain from hook. Join with a slip stitch to top of beginning chain. Counts as 12 double crochet.

Round 2: Chain 3 (counts as 1st double crochet). Double crochet in joining chain. 2 double crochet in each double crochet around. Join. Counts as 24 double crochet.

Round 3: Chain 3. 2 double crochet in next double crochet. Double crochet in next double crochet. Repeat this pattern 2 dc, dc, 2dc, dc all the way around. Join. Counts as 36 double crochet.

Round 4: Chain 3 (counts as double crochet). Double crochet in next 4 double crochets. followed by 2 double crochet in next. Repeat all the way around so the pattern is dc, dc, dc, dc, dc, 2dc with a 5:1 ratio of double crochets to 2 double crochets. Counts as 42 double crochets.

(Tip: if you counted correctly your row of 42 will end with 2 double crochet in the last stitch).

Round 5 – Round 9: Chain 3. Double crochet in each double crochet. Join. Repeat for 5 total rounds.

Round 10: Chain 1. Single crochet in front loop only of each double crochet around. Join. Turn. (Note: this is turning round)

Round 11: Chain 1. Single crochet in booth loops of each single crochet. Join.

Round 12 – Round 15: Repeat round 11.

Pumpkin Stem

Chain 6 with hook one size smaller than the hook you’ve used for the hat. Turn. Switch to a hook one size larger than you’ve used for the hat. Chain one, single crochet one stitch in each loop back to the beginning of the chain. By using different size hooks you will create a curve to your stem. Tie a square knot in the two ends of your yarn. Pull both yarn ends through the center hole in the top of your hat. Using your plastic needle sew the yarn ends into the inside of your hat. Once secured tie a knot in the end of your yarn to secure. And voila, your pumpkin hat is complete!

A Pumpkin Hat for the Little Pumpkin in Your Life

And there you have it, an easy crochet pattern for a cute pumpkin hat. I hope you enjoy making this quick and easy project for the little pumpkin in your life!

(Note: if you are making this for an older child, round 4 is somewhere the pattern can be easily adapted to make the hat larger. If you need to make it larger you could make this a row of 48 instead of 42 by having your pattern around be double crochet in one stitch, double crochet in one stitch, 2 double crochet in one stitch all the way around).
